‘The famous theater architect, Thomas Lamb, was commissioned in the early 1900s by the Ferber Amusement Company to design a theater in Lakewood. The vision for the theater was not only to provide an aesthetically appealing venue, but also one that would encourage Broadway producers to utilize it as a tryout theater before moving their shows to Broadway.
In 1922, The Strand Theater in Lakewood the opened in a time when Lakewood was a popular playground for the rich and famous, including big names such as President Grover Cleveland and John D. Rockefeller. Architecturally, THE STRAND has exemplary sight lines, with no obstructing pillars or uprights. The acoustics are notably effective since it was built at a time when performers relied mainly on their own voices. Today, THE STRAND is known as one of the best acoustical theaters in the nation and is a top live entertainment venue.’

Free Cardiac & Concussion Screenings for Kids Community Medical Center and the Matthew J. Morahan, III Health Assessment Center for Athletes, are offering free cardiac and concussion screenings for young athletes! Register online at https://www.rwjbh.org/events/event/?event=35951.
Cardiac Screening:
Open to the first 75 athletes | 6-18 years old
Concussion Screening:
Open to the first 75 athletes | 5-18 years old
Screenings are recommended to be repeated every 2 years.
When preliminary testing to identify, serious cardiac problems is provided to young athletes, sudden cardiac arrest and tragic deaths may be avoided. Ninety percent of sudden cardiac deaths in young athletes occur during or after athletic activities and hidden heart conditions are often the cause. This cardiac screening will help to identify children, aged six to 18 years of age, who may require further testing or intervention.
The concussion baseline screening is for children, ages five to 18 years old. Having a concussion baseline study (ImPACT) can help identify issues in the future. Children five to 11 will be tested on an iPad which is much more game-like and makes the testing fun. If a child is believed to have suffered a head injury, this screening test may be used to evaluate the severity of the head injury and determine when it is safe to return to normal activities.
The screenings are being offered at Toms River Intermediate East with Community Medical Center and the Matthew J. Morahan III Health Assessment Center for Athletes, both part of RWJBarnabas Health. The Morahan Center provides education, evaluation, and assessment of sports injury and sports-related cardiac and concussion screenings.

Our 3rd annual Clash of the Titans event is here, taking place on Sunday, August 13th from 12 PM to 6 PM at Community Park in Point Pleasant, NJ.
This event is FREE and open to the public. In addition to the game, there will be fun available for the whole family including:
Food Trucks
Bumper Cars
Games & Prizes
Music
Rock Wall
And more!
This annual event is hosted by Lester Glenn Subaru and the Point Pleasant Challenger Flag Football Team to help raise awareness and funds for the Point Pleasant Challenger Flag Football program.
The Point Pleasant Challenger Flag Football program was designed to allow children with various types of special needs the opportunity to participate in a team sport that promotes inclusion and helps those with special needs succeed.
This program is a nonprofit organization that believes that the football field is a place where more than just a game is played. It works to help bridge the difference and promote an understanding of people with special needs. Through the program, volunteers learn that people with special needs are not so different than themselves and develop an understanding of the challenges that their differently-abled counterparts face each day. The challenger athletes have the opportunity to play a team sport, experience a sense of comradery and make physical gains in terms of coordination and endurance, while also learning how to work as a member of a team.
We hope you and your families can join us at this amazing, FREE, event on 8/13/23 from 12 PM to 6 PM in Point Pleasant!

🛥Since 1998, with the first pump out boat in New Jersey, the “Circle of Life,” over 2.1 million gallons of concentrated effluent waste have been removed from the holding tanks and portable toilets of over 98,500 boats that would otherwise have been directly discharged into the No-Discharge Zone intercoastal waters of Ocean County. This service is provided free of charge. 🛥
🛥Ocean County is committed to working to preserve and improve the environmental health of its coastal waters and of the Barnegat Bay Estuary. It recognizes the direct connection between the environmental well-being of the intercoastal waterways and the quality of life and economic vitality of the region.

The Ocean County Natural Lands Trust Program was established to acquire and maintain environmentally sensitive lands, natural areas or open spaces that would generally remain in their natural state and for the preservation of farmland. The objective of the program, is to establish of a system of protected lands which, in combination with the Farmland Preservation Program, enhance the quality of life in Ocean County by:
Helping to maintain the County’s rural characteristics.
Protecting critical environmental resources and water supply.
Maintaining and enhancing active agriculture.
Buffering areas that are not compatible with development.
In 1997, the residents of Ocean County, overwhelmingly voted to establish the Ocean County Natural Lands Trust Program. The approval of a 1.2 cent dedicated tax provides the Board of Commissioners with the funds to acquire lands in Ocean County for conservation and farmland preservation.
With over 25,000 acres preserved as open space through NLTF there are many opportunities for the public to enjoy nature in Ocean County. Certain properties may be more appropriate than others for activities. Our properties are managed in partnership with the County Parks Department, and they are open to the public consistent with the Ocean County Parks and Natural Lands Trust Rules.
