OCAG117 Linocut for beginners

This is a 6-week adult and teen 17+ class. Jan 17, 24, 31, Feb 7, 21, 28 (No class 2/14)

Goals for Beginning Linocut Block Printing Course • to develop an understanding of what block printing is • to understand the tools and materials • to practice the safety measures when using the cutting tools • to create simple designs for printing • to be able to transfer a design to a block • to be competent in cutting the block • to be competent in inking the block and printing on a register • to understand how to clean the materials • to be able to cut and print a two- or three-color linocut reduction print.
Week 1
introduce tools and terms
show basic steps
discuss safety
practice cutting on old blocks
transfer drawing to new block
cut block
test print
Week 2
transfer new drawing to block
cut block and test print
use different colored papers
discuss reduction prints
Week 3
transfer drawing to block
color in drawing to use as a guide
do first cut and print on good paper
Week 4-6
do two more cuts and print
number, title and sign prints
