SUMMARY:Peto Presents: The Hindenburg Experience
DESCRIPTION:Come and experience the last flight of the Hindenburg from Frankfurt Germany to Lakehurst\, NJ in 1937! At 803.8 feet in length and 135.1 feet in diameter\, the German passenger airship Hindenburg (LZ-129) was the largest aircraft ever to fly. The commercial flights of Hindenburg\, along with Graf Zeppelin\, pioneered the first transatlantic air service. She carried hundreds of passengers and traveled thousands of miles before it burned in a tragic fire on May 6\, 1937 at NAS Lakehurst or (Manchester\, NJ.). Please join us through your imagination on a trip through Hindenburg’s history. Presenter: Bill Schmidt \n\nhttps://petomuseum.org/ \ninfo@petomuseum.org \n7329294949 \n

SUMMARY:Peto Presents: Old Methodist Cemetery (and Where the Island Heights Bodies are...)
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the John F. Peto Studio Museum for a presentation by R. Joseph Latshaw III about the historic Old Methodist Cemetery\, located at the corner of Hooper Avenue and Washington Street in Toms River. So\, the bigger question is\, since Island Heights dates back to the 1600’s\, what happened to the bodies??? He will also discuss burial practices of the time and how they would have been applied to early residents of the area. \n\nThis Power Point presentation will include a brief history of 19th Century Toms River\, the emergence of Methodism\, the identity of military veterans interred at the cemetery dating back to the American Revolution\, the meaning of some of the symbols on certain gravestones\, and much more. Joseph will also discuss preservation efforts for the two-hundred-year-old cemetery. \n\nJoseph is the historian for the First United Methodist Church of Toms River\, which oversees and manages the Old Methodist Cemetery. A lifelong resident of Toms River\, he has a degree in history from Kean University. Joseph is currently employed by the Ocean County Cultural and Heritage Commission. Additionally\, he serves as president of the Ocean County Historical Society\, chair of the Toms River Township Historic Preservation Commission\, and trustee for the League of Historical Societies of New Jersey. Joseph is an Eagle Scout\, an assistant scoutmaster\, and a member of the Sons of the American Revolution. \n\nhttps://petomuseum.org/ \ninfo@petomuseum.org \n7329294949
