DESCRIPTION:Nat Adderley\, Jr. spent 25 years as the Music Director for rhythm and blues singer Luther Vandross\, but after Vandross passed away in 2005\, Adderley\, Jr.\, the son of trumpeter Nat Adderley and nephew of alto saxophonist Julian “Cannonball” Adderley\, returned to his roots as a jazz pianist\, mixing hard bop with R&B. \nIn October 2025\, Adderley released his first jazz album as a leader Took So Long. \nThe album soared to the top of the JazzWeek charts\, spending six weeks at Number 1. DownBeat Magazine’s Joshua Myers called it “a near perfect mixture of standard jazz tunes and popular musical mainstays.” \nOn September 13\, at the Gia Maione Prima Foundation Studio Theatre\, Adderley\, Jr.\, will be performing selections from Took So Long. \nIn addition to his original title tune\, you’ll hear such songs as Bronislaw Kaper’s “Green Dolphin Street”\, Dizzy Gillespie’s “Con Alma”\, Burton Lane’s “Old Devil Moon”\, and “Superstar”\, written by Leon Russell for The Carpenters\, but memorably recorded by Luther Vandross. \nIn the DownBeat review\, Joshua Myers reminded his readers that\, “It is simply cool to hear once again how interpretations of sounds made famous by Stevie Wonder\, The Stylistics\, and Aretha Franklin beautifully coexist alongside those written by Billie Holiday and Dizzy Gillespie. \nMasters of the piano format have gamely plumbed these associations before. DESCRIPTION:International pianist Ching-Yi Lin presents “Heroic Journey\,” a program that explores transformation\, struggle\, and triumph through music. \nFrom the dramatic intensity of Bach’s Chromatic Fantasy and Fugue to the brilliance of Chopin’s Heroic Polonaise\, the program is anchored by Beethoven’s Eroica Variations and the transcendent final sonata\, Op. 111\, tracing a powerful emotional arc from conflict to resolution. \nOriginally from Yunlin\, Taiwan\, Dr. Lin holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University and has appeared at distinguished venues including Merkin Hall at Kaufman Music Center\, Van Cliburn Concert Hall in Texas\, Washington National Cathedral\, and Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. As a soloist\, he has been recognized in numerous international competitions\, earning awards at the Beethoven International Piano Competition in Singapore\, the New York International Artists Association Competition\, the NTD International Piano Competition in New York City\, Second Prize at the Texas State International Piano Competition\, Third Prize at the Marbella International Piano Competition\, and the Wonderlic Piano Competition. \nIn addition to his solo career\, Lin has collaborated with members of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra\, National Symphony Orchestra\, and the Philadelphia Orchestra\, and in 2024 he was featured as guest pianist in a special concert honoring Leon Fleisher at the Mohican Hills Concert Series. DESCRIPTION:Since bringing home the Gold and Silver medals at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games\, Laurie Hernandez has gone on to win the coveted Mirror Ball trophy on “Dancing with the Stars” Season 23 and her first book titled “I Got This: To Gold and Beyond” chronicling her journey thus far was published in 2017\, hitting the New York Times Best Sellers list. In 2018\, she released a children’s picture book “She’s Got This\,” also a New York Times Best Seller\, while serving as a Literary Champion to promote readership as a path to leadership\, and Mattel created Laurie Hernandez “Shero” Barbie to honor her. \nShe is a second-generation American\, as her grandparents are from Puerto Rico\, making her the first U.S.-born Latina to make the U.S. team since 1984. Laurie was also the gymnastics analyst for NBC at the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympic Games. DESCRIPTION:“She has a miraculous voice\, musical ability and technique\, as well as an innate gift for entertaining a crowd.” — Wall Street Journal \nVeronica Swift has established herself as one of her generation’s iconic voices in Jazz. \nThroughout her childhood\, she toured nationally with her parents (Jazz musicians Hod O’Brien and Stephanie Nakasian)\, singing at renowned clubs and festivals such as Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola\, Jazz Standard (NYC)\, Jazz Showcase (Chicago)\, and Telluride Jazz Festival. \nShe recorded her first album at age nine\, and since then has had a career spanning two decades\, which saw a 2nd place win at The 2015 Thelonious Monk Jazz Competition\, a twice-a-year residency at Birdland Jazz Club\, joining Chris Botti’s touring band\, as well as touring with Wynton Marsalis and Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and recording with Jeff Goldblum. \nHer 2021 album This Bitter Earth received a 5-star review and the cover of DownBeat magazine\, and in 2024\, she was honored with a French knighthood as Chevalier in the Order of Arts and Letters. \nWhile her first two releases on Mack Avenue cemented her as a master of scat improvisation and programming conceptual song cycles\, her most recent self-titled album (2023) showed us that Swift’s talents and path lie in other directions than just Jazz\, rather theatrical glam rock as seen with her original band DAME\, which she co-founded with The Dresden Dolls’ Brian Viglione. \nSince moving to Los Angeles in 2022\, she has pursued other projects and collaborations in the rock genre with artists like pianist Mike Garson of David Bowie\, Luke Spiller of The Struts\, guitarist John Notto of Dirty Honey\, and The Lemon Twigs.
