SUMMARY:Krakauer & Tagg’s Good Vibes Explosion
DESCRIPTION:Krakauer & Tagg’s Good Vibes Explosion is a touring project that was born in the midst of the pandemic lockdowns of 2020. \nConceived and created by Grammy-nominated “ebullient clarinet wizard” (Time Out NY) David Krakauer and multi-instrumentalist/producer Kathleen Tagg\, this project showcases a multi-generational/high-octane group of collaborators from very different backgrounds\, hailing from the USA\, Canada\, Iran and South Africa. \nTogether they embrace the diversity of today’s America through their unique take on a multitude of traditional roots musics\, bringing their enormous musical and cultural diversity to the project and collaborating to create powerful original material. Old forms are celebrated both by bringing them into a 21st century sound-world and expanding the context to make room for new stories. \nFeatured on shows such as NPR’s Morning Edition and Radio France International (RFI) Sessions Live\, this project was created in response to the current climate of polarization that pervades our daily lives. In these uncertain times\, it’s a chance to come together to celebrate our common humanity and foster joy\, positivity and togetherness. \nTheir album\, Mazel Tov Cocktail Party\, has received rave reviews across North America and Europe: \nFrance’s Le Monde says: “a breath of fresh air\, an incentive to dance…In the face of the overwhelming negativity and alarming rise of hatred and intolerance in today’s world\, let’s breathe and dance together…More than a suggestion\, an injunction” \nRoots World says: “An informal cocktail party typically lasts a few hours\, and this one ends all too soon. 5 stars” \nThey have performed at venues that include Paris’ famed 2000-seater Théâtre du Châtelet and Vienna’s Porgy & Bess Club\, and in venues large and small in France\, Holland\, Austria and the USA. \nhttps://www.grunincenter.org/event/krakauer-taggs-good-vibes-explosion/ \ngrunincenter@ocean.edu \n732-255-0500

SUMMARY:Picasso at the Lapin Agile
DESCRIPTION:This long-running Off Broadway absurdist comedy places Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso in a Parisian cafe in 1904\, just before the renowned scientist transformed physics with his theory of relativity and the celebrated painter set the art world afire with cubism. In his first comedy for the stage\, the popular actor and screenwriter plays fast and loose with fact\, fame\, and fortune as these two geniuses muse on the century’s achievements and prospects\, as well as other fanciful topics\, with infectious dizziness. Bystanders\, including Picasso’s agent\, the bartender and his mistress\, Picasso’s date\, an elderly philosopher\, Charles Dabernow Schmendiman\, and an idiot inventor introduce additional flourishes of humor. The final surprise patron to join the merriment at the Lapin Agile is a charismatic dark-haired singer\, time-warped in from a later era. \n\nhttps://www.grunincenter.org/event/picasso-at-the-lapin-agile/2026-05-03/ \ngrunincenter@ocean.edu \n732-255-0500 \nFriday\, April 24 • 7:30pm\, Saturday\, April 25 • 7:30pm\, Sunday\, April 26 • 2:00pm\, Friday\, May 1 • 7:30pm (This performance will be interpreted in ASL by students from the Interpreter Training Program.)\, Saturday\, May 2 • 2:00pm & 7:00pm\, Sunday\, May 3 • 2:00pm

SUMMARY:Raul Midón
DESCRIPTION: \n \nBlind Singer-Songwriter Guitarist Raul Midón is nothing if not prolific. His 14th and latest album\, Lost & Found is a blend of what he calls “smooth folk\,” “alt-pop” and “jazz.” A master at combining genres\, “his music suggests a three way fusion of Stevie Wonder\, Bobby McFerrin and José Feliciano\,” New York Times. Midón recently debuted the album’s first single\, the uplifting bluesy pop song Keep On Keeping On on the The Jennifer Hudson Show (December 2023). \n\nJoining him on this body of work are his friends\, industry veterans\, Andres Forero (Hamilton\, Phish\, U2) Drums & Percussion\, Richard Hammond (Hamilton) bass\, Federico Pena (Black Lives) keyboards & piano. The anthemic Next Time\, a “galloping rock waltz” is a co-write with New York fixture Mike Errico\, who plays on it as well. String arrangements were provided by Andrew Sherman. \n\nLost & Found\, the album’s moniker which Midón calls “smooth folk” or folk with harmonic surprises is a celebration of redemption. The lyrics were inspired by his listening to Bob Dylan’s reading of his poem\, Last Thoughts On Woody Guthrie. \n\nWhen We Remember is a country-tinged song that includes a stint of Raul playing banjo. He might have reached out to Bela Fleck but he’s held his own here and he does it from the comfort of his basement studio. To do this Midón has had to learn the art of engineering. The technology for the blind is not consistent and it’s a constant struggle\, one he continues to confront on a daily basis. He’s been assisted here by New York recording engineer\, Michael O’Reilly\, whom he met while making his major label debut State of Mind under the careful eye of legendary producer\, Arif Mardin. Raul has worked with “Mike” extensively on many albums since those early days including the Grammy Nominated Bad Ass and Blind. \n\nhttps://www.grunincenter.org/event/raul-midon/ \ngrunincenter@ocean.edu \n732-255-0500

SUMMARY:Sentimental Journey Big Band
DESCRIPTION:An Inspired Journey Through the Classics of Swing and the melodic gems of other styles that have been transformed by Jazz. \nJoin us for “It Might As Well Be Swing.” \nYou can count on Sentimental Journey Big Band to bring you the best of the Swing Era\, while vocalist Altha Morton sings the jazzed up versions of country\, pop\, and R&B hits. \nWhat makes this year’s program unique is a vibrant celebration of the enduring dialogue between classical music and jazz. From Bizet to Verdi\, and Paganini to Rimsky- Korsakov\, composers have long inspired jazz artists with their timeless themes and harmonic structures. \nThis performance explores how classical compositions are transformed through jazz arrangements—whether in the smooth sophistication of a big band\, the daring freedom of improvisation\, or the rhythmic vitality of swing. Artists like Glenn Miller\, Les Brown\, the Dorsey brothers\, and Benny Goodman took these compositions to the top of the charts! \nWhether you’re a lover of pop\, classical\, or swing\, this program promises a foot-tapping\, soul-stirring ride through music that refuses to stay in one lane. \nhttps://www.grunincenter.org/event/sentimental-journey-big-band-2/ \ngrunincenter@ocean.edu \n732-255-0500
