SUMMARY:Veronica Swift
DESCRIPTION:“She has a miraculous voice\, musical ability and technique\, as well as an innate gift for entertaining a crowd.” — Wall Street Journal \nVeronica Swift has established herself as one of her generation’s iconic voices in Jazz. \nThroughout her childhood\, she toured nationally with her parents (Jazz musicians Hod O’Brien and Stephanie Nakasian)\, singing at renowned clubs and festivals such as Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola\, Jazz Standard (NYC)\, Jazz Showcase (Chicago)\, and Telluride Jazz Festival. \nShe recorded her first album at age nine\, and since then has had a career spanning two decades\, which saw a 2nd place win at The 2015 Thelonious Monk Jazz Competition\, a twice-a-year residency at Birdland Jazz Club\, joining Chris Botti’s touring band\, as well as touring with Wynton Marsalis and Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and recording with Jeff Goldblum. \nHer 2021 album This Bitter Earth received a 5-star review and the cover of DownBeat magazine\, and in 2024\, she was honored with a French knighthood as Chevalier in the Order of Arts and Letters. \nWhile her first two releases on Mack Avenue cemented her as a master of scat improvisation and programming conceptual song cycles\, her most recent self-titled album (2023) showed us that Swift’s talents and path lie in other directions than just Jazz\, rather theatrical glam rock as seen with her original band DAME\, which she co-founded with The Dresden Dolls’ Brian Viglione. \nSince moving to Los Angeles in 2022\, she has pursued other projects and collaborations in the rock genre with artists like pianist Mike Garson of David Bowie\, Luke Spiller of The Struts\, guitarist John Notto of Dirty Honey\, and The Lemon Twigs. Swift’s expansive artistic voice remains firmly intact regardless of genre. \nShe continues to release Jazz music as Veronica Swift\, as is evident in her 2026 album\, Home\, which will be released in May of this year. \nThe album’s story takes us on Veronica’s journey from growing up on a farm in Greater Appalachian Virginia\, losin \ngrunincenter.org \n732-255-0500

SUMMARY:Nat Adderley\, Jr.
DESCRIPTION:Nat Adderley\, Jr. spent 25 years as the Music Director for rhythm and blues singer Luther Vandross\, but after Vandross passed away in 2005\, Adderley\, Jr.\, the son of trumpeter Nat Adderley and nephew of alto saxophonist Julian “Cannonball” Adderley\, returned to his roots as a jazz pianist\, mixing hard bop with R&B. \nIn October 2025\, Adderley released his first jazz album as a leader Took So Long. \nThe album soared to the top of the JazzWeek charts\, spending six weeks at Number 1. DownBeat Magazine’s Joshua Myers called it “a near perfect mixture of standard jazz tunes and popular musical mainstays.” \nOn September 13\, at the Gia Maione Prima Foundation Studio Theatre\, Adderley\, Jr.\, will be performing selections from Took So Long. \nIn addition to his original title tune\, you’ll hear such songs as Bronislaw Kaper’s “Green Dolphin Street”\, Dizzy Gillespie’s “Con Alma”\, Burton Lane’s “Old Devil Moon”\, and “Superstar”\, written by Leon Russell for The Carpenters\, but memorably recorded by Luther Vandross. \nIn the DownBeat review\, Joshua Myers reminded his readers that\, “It is simply cool to hear once again how interpretations of sounds made famous by Stevie Wonder\, The Stylistics\, and Aretha Franklin beautifully coexist alongside those written by Billie Holiday and Dizzy Gillespie. \nMasters of the piano format have gamely plumbed these associations before. But in the hands of Nat Adderley\, Jr.\, we get yet another fresh look.” \nTook So Long was selected as WBGO Radio’s “New Day\, New Play” album in October 2025. \nThe station’s morning host\, Gary Walker\, pointed out that\, “There are reimagined standards\, an original\, and a fabulous recollection of his dear friend Luther Vandross on ‘Superstar’. \nIt might have taken so long\, but it has been well worth it.” \ngrunincenter.org \n732-255-0500

From Bizet to Verdi\, and Paganini to Rimsky- Korsakov\, composers have long inspired jazz artists with their timeless themes and harmonic structures. \nThis performance explores how classical compositions are transformed through jazz arrangements—whether in the smooth sophistication of a big band\, the daring freedom of improvisation\, or the rhythmic vitality of swing. Artists like Glenn Miller\, Les Brown\, the Dorsey brothers\, and Benny Goodman took these compositions to the top of the charts! \nWhether you’re a lover of pop\, classical\, or swing\, this program promises a foot-tapping\, soul-stirring ride through music that refuses to stay in one lane. \nhttps://www.grunincenter.org/event/sentimental-journey-big-band-2/ \ngrunincenter@ocean.edu \n732-255-0500

SUMMARY:Raul Midón
DESCRIPTION: \n \nBlind Singer-Songwriter Guitarist Raul Midón is nothing if not prolific. His 14th and latest album\, Lost & Found is a blend of what he calls “smooth folk\,” “alt-pop” and “jazz.” A master at combining genres\, “his music suggests a three way fusion of Stevie Wonder\, Bobby McFerrin and José Feliciano\,” New York Times. Midón recently debuted the album’s first single\, the uplifting bluesy pop song Keep On Keeping On on the The Jennifer Hudson Show (December 2023). \n\nJoining him on this body of work are his friends\, industry veterans\, Andres Forero (Hamilton\, Phish\, U2) Drums & Percussion\, Richard Hammond (Hamilton) bass\, Federico Pena (Black Lives) keyboards & piano. The anthemic Next Time\, a “galloping rock waltz” is a co-write with New York fixture Mike Errico\, who plays on it as well. String arrangements were provided by Andrew Sherman. \n\nLost & Found\, the album’s moniker which Midón calls “smooth folk” or folk with harmonic surprises is a celebration of redemption. The lyrics were inspired by his listening to Bob Dylan’s reading of his poem\, Last Thoughts On Woody Guthrie. \n\nWhen We Remember is a country-tinged song that includes a stint of Raul playing banjo. He might have reached out to Bela Fleck but he’s held his own here and he does it from the comfort of his basement studio. To do this Midón has had to learn the art of engineering. The technology for the blind is not consistent and it’s a constant struggle\, one he continues to confront on a daily basis. He’s been assisted here by New York recording engineer\, Michael O’Reilly\, whom he met while making his major label debut State of Mind under the careful eye of legendary producer\, Arif Mardin. Raul has worked with “Mike” extensively on many albums since those early days including the Grammy Nominated Bad Ass and Blind. \n\nhttps://www.grunincenter.org/event/raul-midon/ \ngrunincenter@ocean.edu \n732-255-0500

SUMMARY:Picasso at the Lapin Agile
DESCRIPTION:This long-running Off Broadway absurdist comedy places Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso in a Parisian cafe in 1904\, just before the renowned scientist transformed physics with his theory of relativity and the celebrated painter set the art world afire with cubism. In his first comedy for the stage\, the popular actor and screenwriter plays fast and loose with fact\, fame\, and fortune as these two geniuses muse on the century’s achievements and prospects\, as well as other fanciful topics\, with infectious dizziness. Bystanders\, including Picasso’s agent\, the bartender and his mistress\, Picasso’s date\, an elderly philosopher\, Charles Dabernow Schmendiman\, and an idiot inventor introduce additional flourishes of humor. The final surprise patron to join the merriment at the Lapin Agile is a charismatic dark-haired singer\, time-warped in from a later era. \n\nhttps://www.grunincenter.org/event/picasso-at-the-lapin-agile/2026-05-03/ \ngrunincenter@ocean.edu \n732-255-0500 \nFriday\, April 24 • 7:30pm\, Saturday\, April 25 • 7:30pm\, Sunday\, April 26 • 2:00pm\, Friday\, May 1 • 7:30pm (This performance will be interpreted in ASL by students from the Interpreter Training Program.)\, Saturday\, May 2 • 2:00pm & 7:00pm\, Sunday\, May 3 • 2:00pm

SUMMARY:Krakauer & Tagg’s Good Vibes Explosion
DESCRIPTION:Krakauer & Tagg’s Good Vibes Explosion is a touring project that was born in the midst of the pandemic lockdowns of 2020. \nConceived and created by Grammy-nominated “ebullient clarinet wizard” (Time Out NY) David Krakauer and multi-instrumentalist/producer Kathleen Tagg\, this project showcases a multi-generational/high-octane group of collaborators from very different backgrounds\, hailing from the USA\, Canada\, Iran and South Africa. \nTogether they embrace the diversity of today’s America through their unique take on a multitude of traditional roots musics\, bringing their enormous musical and cultural diversity to the project and collaborating to create powerful original material. Old forms are celebrated both by bringing them into a 21st century sound-world and expanding the context to make room for new stories. \nFeatured on shows such as NPR’s Morning Edition and Radio France International (RFI) Sessions Live\, this project was created in response to the current climate of polarization that pervades our daily lives. In these uncertain times\, it’s a chance to come together to celebrate our common humanity and foster joy\, positivity and togetherness. \nTheir album\, Mazel Tov Cocktail Party\, has received rave reviews across North America and Europe: \nFrance’s Le Monde says: “a breath of fresh air\, an incentive to dance…In the face of the overwhelming negativity and alarming rise of hatred and intolerance in today’s world\, let’s breathe and dance together…More than a suggestion\, an injunction” \nRoots World says: “An informal cocktail party typically lasts a few hours\, and this one ends all too soon. 5 stars” \nThey have performed at venues that include Paris’ famed 2000-seater Théâtre du Châtelet and Vienna’s Porgy & Bess Club\, and in venues large and small in France\, Holland\, Austria and the USA. \nhttps://www.grunincenter.org/event/krakauer-taggs-good-vibes-explosion/ \ngrunincenter@ocean.edu \n732-255-0500

SUMMARY:Brass Queens
DESCRIPTION:Brass Queens is a female-led\, New York-based brass band that has been dominating the brass band scene since 2019. \n\nFinding that they shared similar frustrations about the emerging brass band scene in New York City\, co-founders Alex Harris and Ally Chapel came together to form a group dedicated to showcasing the talents of female musicians in a landscape that was dominated by male musicians and bandleaders. After debuting in March 2019\, Brass Queens grew to be a fixture in the local music scene and was dubbed “the hardest working band in town” by their peers. The Queens gained a dedicated following through outdoor performances on the streets of Brooklyn and playing pop-up events in their community through the pandemic. \n\nA core value of the band is to play for as many audiences as possible to increase the visibility of female musicians in brass bands. Brass Queens tour regularly across the country and internationally. Recent highlights include a New Year’s Eve performance in Telluride\, multiple nights at Favela Chic in New Orleans\, and a sold out show at Cliff Bell’s in Detroit. They also make appearances on festival stages including the Ottawa Jazz Festival\, Northlands Music Festival\, MusikFest\, Duck Jazz Festival\, and multiple appearances at the Exit Zero Jazz Festival. Brass Queens has played major events like The Met Gala and David Byrne’s “Amazing Humans Doing Amazing Things!” Variety Show\, and for notable clients including New Balance\, Chanel\, Saks Fifth Avenue\, Tiffany & Co.\, Bombas\, Perrier\, Facebook\, Instagram\, and Pinterest. SUMMARY:Dancing at Lughnasa
DESCRIPTION:This extraordinary play is the story of five unmarried sisters eking out their lives in a small village in Ireland in 1936. We meet them at the time of the festival of Lughnasa\, which celebrates the pagan god of the harvest with drunken revelry and dancing. Their spare existence is interrupted by brief\, colorful bursts of music from the radio\, their only link to the romance and hope of the world at large. The action of the play is told through the memory of the illegitimate son of one of the sisters as he remembers the five women who raised him: his mother and four maiden aunts. He is only seven in 1936\, the year his elderly uncle\, a priest\, returns after serving for twenty-five years as a missionary in a Ugandan leper colony. For the young boy\, two other disturbances occur that summer. The sisters acquire their first radio\, whose music transforms them from correct Catholic women to shrieking\, stomping banshees in their own kitchen. And he meets his father for the first time\, a charming Welsh drifter who strolls up the lane and sweeps his mother away in an elegant dance across the fields. From these small events spring the cracks that destroy the foundation of the family forever.
