SUMMARY:Disaster Preparedness for Seniors and Individuals with Disabilities
DESCRIPTION:Learn Disaster Preparedness for Seniors and Individuals with Disabilities at the Ocean County Library \nTOMS RIVER – It is vital for everyone to prepare for an emergency such as a natural disaster or an accident\, but seniors and individuals with disabilities need to take extra precautions to ensure their safety. \nThat’s why two branches of the Ocean County Library will host “Disaster Preparedness: For Seniors and Individuals with Disabilities.” \nThe program will take place on the following dates and locations: \nWednesday\, September 23 @ 6:30 p.m. – Upper Shores Branch – 112 Jersey City Avenue\, Lavallette\, 732-793-3996 \nMonday\, September 28 @ 6:30 p.m. – Manchester Branch – 21 Colonial Drive\, 732-657-7600 \n\nDuring this workshop\, you will learn: \nReputable sources for learning about impending weather events \nHow to inform police and first responders that seniors and/or people with disabilities live in the home before an emergency arises \nThe importance of packing an emergency supply kit and what items to place in it \nHow to plan for essentials such as medications\, transportation\, communication devices\, medical equipment\, calming toys and devices\, and service dogs and pets \n\nJamie Arasz Prioli\, Director of Access and Disability Services at Ocean County College\, will present the program. \nShe has worked in the disability field for over 30 years and identifies as a neurodivergent adult with a lifelong hidden disability\, which gives her a unique understanding of inclusion and accessibility. \nAs a certified Rehabilitation Counselor\, she uses both her knowledge and personal experience to help others address access barriers in education\, work\, and community environments. \nRegistration is required for these free programs.
