SUMMARY:Dancing at Lughnasa
DESCRIPTION:This extraordinary play is the story of five unmarried sisters eking out their lives in a small village in Ireland in 1936. We meet them at the time of the festival of Lughnasa\, which celebrates the pagan god of the harvest with drunken revelry and dancing. Their spare existence is interrupted by brief\, colorful bursts of music from the radio\, their only link to the romance and hope of the world at large. The action of the play is told through the memory of the illegitimate son of one of the sisters as he remembers the five women who raised him: his mother and four maiden aunts. He is only seven in 1936\, the year his elderly uncle\, a priest\, returns after serving for twenty-five years as a missionary in a Ugandan leper colony. For the young boy\, two other disturbances occur that summer. The sisters acquire their first radio\, whose music transforms them from correct Catholic women to shrieking\, stomping banshees in their own kitchen. And he meets his father for the first time\, a charming Welsh drifter who strolls up the lane and sweeps his mother away in an elegant dance across the fields. From these small events spring the cracks that destroy the foundation of the family forever. Widely regarded as Brian Friel’s masterpiece\, this haunting play is Friel’s tribute to the spirit and valor of the past. \n\nhttps://www.grunincenter.org/event/dancing-at-lughnasa/2026-03-22/ \ngrunincenter@ocean.edu \n732-255-0500 \nFriday\, March 13 • 7:30pm (This performance will be interpreted in ASL by students from the Interpreter Training Program.)\, Saturday\, March 14 • 2:00pm\, Saturday\, March 14 • 7:30pm\, Sunday\, March 15 • 2:00pm\,  Friday\, March 20 • 7:30pm\, Saturday\, March 21 • 2:00pm\, Saturday\, March 21 • 7:30pm\, Sunday\, March 22 • 2:00pm

SUMMARY:Adam Moezinia Trio
DESCRIPTION:Adam Moezinia will be leading his Standards Trio\, presenting fresh arrangements of classic American Songbook compositions by such composers as George Gershwin\, Cole Porter\, and Richard Rodgers. \nA native of Los Angeles\, guitarist Adam Moezinia moved to New York City in 2010 to study at The Juilliard School where he received his graduate degree in Jazz Studies. He is a straight-ahead jazz guitarist rooted in the traditions of swing\, blues and the great American Songbook.  He has played with such jazz artists as vocalists Freddie Cole and Cecile McLorin Salvant\, trumpeter Wynton Marsalis\, and multireedists Will and Pete Anderson\, and has  performed at venues such as the Blue Note\, Birdland\, and Jazz at Lincoln Center. \n\nMoezinia has been influenced on guitar by jazz giants like Barney Kessel\, Herb Ellis\, Joe Pass\, and Jim Hall. In an interview with Jazz Guitar Today\, Moezinia talked about Hall. “Jim to me\,” he said\, “is the father of modern jazz guitar in that he opened the door musically for people like Pat Metheny and Kurt Rosenwinkel.  So\, I think this (his 1975 Jim Hall Live! album) is a must for any aspiring jazz guitarists as well as any jazz guitar enthusiasts.” \n\nJazz on a Sunday Afternoon is made possible through funding from the Wintrode Family Foundation\, the Ocean County College Foundation\, and support from the New Jersey Jazz Society. \n\nhttps://www.grunincenter.org/event/adam-moezinia-trio/ \ngrunincenter@ocean.edu \n732-255-0500 \n

SUMMARY:Drawing with Joseph Rogine
DESCRIPTION:1:00 PM – 3:00 PM \nThis class is being offered to ages 12 and up! \n$20.00 for members per class \n$25.00 for non members per class \nInstructor: Joseph Rogine \nThese classes are designed for both beginning to advanced students who want to sharpen their skills in drawing. \nI have taught students for over 25 years who have never picked up a pencil to draw to those who have been quite advanced. \nIt is an academic course\, (academic being defined as that which can be taught). \nDrawings are created by copying master drawings\, simple to complex still-life objects and classical plaster casts. \nThe student usually begins by copying a master drawing that is supplied to them. \nAll students start out using graphite pencils with grades of 2H HB 2B. The capabilities and limitations of drawing materials and drawing instruments are discussed at length along with their proper handling. \nClasses are essentially about learning how to see nature and the world as an artist sees it\, through the language and medium of drawing. \nThe student’s eye will gradually become trained and sensitive on how to compose a layout on the page\, assessing proportion\, elementary perspective\, gauge angles\, identify shapes\, access the degree of curvature of forms\, locate hidden movements and linear rhythms\, the structure and modeling of form and the study of light and shade. \nThis opens a whole new world towards a visual literacy that was very common in school curricula 100 to 150 years ago. \nDepending on a students’ progress and particular interest repeat students are free to experiment with various drawing mediums like charcoal\, pastel pencil\, pen and ink etc.\, along with the drawing surfaces applicable to their chosen medium. Joseph Rogine supply list 2024. \nIf you have any questions\, please contact Joseph Rogine at 732-349-6859\, or by email at info@ocartistsguild.org.
