SUMMARY:A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness
DESCRIPTION:‘Stories are wild creatures\, the monster said. When you let them loose\, who knows what havoc they might wreak?’ \nPatrick Ness’s piercing novel A Monster Calls is brought to The Old Vic stage in a powerful new adaptation by visionary director Sally Cookson. \nThirteen-year-old Conor and his mum have managed just fine since his dad moved to America. \nBut now his mum’s very sick and she’s not getting any better. His grandmother won’t stop interfering and the kids at school won’t look him in the eye. \nThen\, one night\, at seven minutes past midnight\, Conor is woken by something at his window. A monster has come walking. \nIt’s come to tell Conor tales from when it walked before. And when it’s finished\, Conor must tell his own story and face his deepest fears. \nOn publication\, A Monster Calls became a bestseller with children and adults alike with its dazzling insight into love\, loss and healing. \nIt garnered huge critical acclaim\, including an unprecedented double win of the Carnegie and Greenaway Medals for outstanding children’s literature and illustration. \nBased on the novel by Patrick Ness \nInspired by an idea by Siobhan Dowd \nhttps://www.grunincenter.org/event/a-monster-calls/2025-11-15/2/ \nclittle@ocvts.org \n7322865678

SUMMARY:Albert Music Hall - Homeplace Show
DESCRIPTION:Albert Music Hall will host it’s annual Homeplace Show. This show features some of the more traditional Sounds of the Jersey Pines. \nYou might wonder where the name of the show comes from – weekly jams held at the Albert’s cabin\, called the “Homeplace” to those who played there\, led to the creation of the Albert Music Hall and Pinelands Cultural Society. You can read more about this by visiting https://www.alberthall.org/our-story. \n\nWe recently came across an old Albert Music Hall Sing Along book in the archive and decided to open the Homeplace Show with a traditional sing-along\, led by Granny and the Boys. We’ll hand out song sheets at the door\, so get ready to join in when the show starts at 6pm. Doors will open at 5pm and the sing along will be followed by five bands: \n\n– Sawmill Run Old Time String Band \n– Sadie Grove \n– Easy As Pie \n– Old Refuge \n– Granny & The Boys \n \nAdmission is $6 or $1 for kids under 12. The venue is cash only. Parking is free and the Hall is wheelchair accessible. \n \nFor dinner we will have several hot food options: Hot dogs & beans\, kielbasa & kraut\, cheeseburgers and hot dogs. Vegan chik’n patties are available on request. There will also be a wide selection of desserts and beverages. \n \nWe hope the gift shop will entice you to start your holiday shopping early. It includes a variety of music\, Hall\, and Pinelands themed gifts\, including our 50th Anniversary merchandise and our brand new Jersey Devil shirts! You can also pick up our yellow song book\, which has a number of traditional songs sung throughout the Hall’s history. \n\nWe look forward to seeing you at this terrific show – come on down to Waretown and celebrate our heritage! \n\nhttps://www.alberthall.org/special-events \ninfo@alberthall.org \n6099711593 \n
