DESCRIPTION:Old Methodist Cemetery — presented by Joseph Latshaw \nJoin us for a presentation by Joseph Latshaw about the historic Old Methodist Cemetery\, located at the corner of Hooper Avenue and Washington Street in Toms River. \nThis Power Point presentation will include a brief history of 19th Century Toms River\, the emergence of Methodism\, the identity of military veterans interred at the cemetery dating back to the American Revolution\, the meaning of some of the symbols on certain gravestones\, and much more. Joseph will also discuss preservation efforts for the two-hundred-year-old cemetery. \nJoseph is the historian for the First United Methodist Church of Toms River\, which oversees and manages the Old Methodist Cemetery. \nA lifelong resident of Toms River\, he has a degree in history from Kean University. \nJoseph is currently employed by the Ocean County Cultural and Heritage Commission. \nIn addition\, he is a President of the Ocean County Historical Society. He also serves as Chair of the Toms River Township Historic Preservation Commission and is a trustee for the League of Historical Societies of New Jersey. Joseph is an Eagle Scout\, an assistant scoutmaster\, and a member of the Sons of the American Revolution. \nThese events take place at our museum at 26 Hadley Avenue in Toms River. DESCRIPTION:This is the love story of Ethel and Norman Thayer\, who are returning to their summer home on Golden Pond for the forty-eighth year. \nHe is a retired professor\, nearing eighty\, with heart palpitations and a failing memory—but still as tart-tongued\, observant\, and eager for life as ever. \nEthel\, ten years younger\, and the perfect foil for Norman\, delights in all the small things that have enriched and continue to enrich their long life together. \nThey are visited by their divorced\, middle-aged daughter and her dentist fiancé\, who then go off to Europe\, leaving his teenage son behind for the summer. \nThe boy quickly becomes the “grandchild” the elderly couple have longed for\, and as Norman revels in taking his ward fishing and thrusting good books at him\, he also learns some lessons about modern teenage awareness—and slang—in return. \nIn the end\, as the summer wanes\, so does their brief idyll\, and in the final\, deeply moving moments of the play\, Norman and Ethel are brought even closer together by the incidence of a mild heart attack. Voted Musician of the Year at the Scots Trad Music Awards 2023\, and with a career spanning several studio albums and numerous high profile collaborations\, her ‘crystalline’ and ‘intoxicating’ vocals have enchanted audiences around the world. \n\nShe will forever be recognized for singing the theme songs to Brave\, Disney Pixar’s Oscar\, Golden Globe and BAFTA winning animated film\, set in the ancient highlands of Scotland.  One of these songs was long-listed for an Oscar. DESCRIPTION:At just eight years old\, Linda Shields discovered her gift\, which would later on turn into a lifelong career for herself. \nIt wasn’t until she was pushed into it that she discovered what it was that she’d be doing for the rest of her life. \nNow\, 54 years later\, the Jersey Shore Medium is touring around the country and continues to be surrounded by spirits in her day-to-day work. \nEleven years ago\, Shields launched her career into becoming the Jersey Shore Medium. \nIt all started in her early twenties when someone approached her with tarot cards. \nLittle did she know she would never see that person again; however\, she would end up needing those cards again someday. \n\nIt became public for Shields in the summer of 1990 when she received a phone call to do a reading. \nShields’ grandmother was also a psychic who taught her how to turn off and on her senses as well as understand them. \n\n“There has never been a time where I could not connect with someone\,” says Shields. “It’s the readings that when I can give closure or hope\, that’s what keeps me going.” \n\nShields is able to use the psychic senses of hearing (Clairaudience)\, tasting/smelling (Clairsentient)\, and physical feeling or being an Empath during a reading. \nShe was never afraid of her spirits due to the fact that she was always surrounded by them. \nThe Jersey Shore Medium admits that she favors Clairaudience because it’s like having a personal dialogue in her head. \n\n“I want to stay where I am.
