DESCRIPTION:Ocean County Historical Society Sponsors Holocaust Survivor\, Arthur Spielman \nSunday\, October 11\, 2026\, at 2:00 PM \nThe Ocean County Historical Society welcomes Arthur Spielman\, who will speak about how he survived the Holocaust. \nArthur was born in 1928 in Krakow\, Poland. \nHe grew up in an Orthodox Jewish family with his father\, mother and two sisters. \nAlthough his family was not required to move into the Krakow ghetto because his father was an international diplomat\, the Spielman family chose to move to live closer to their extended family. \nArthur Spielman’s family briefly lived in the Krakow ghetto before the liquidation process in Krakow began. \nAs Arthur’s father became aware of the final solution\, the family separated and was smuggled out of Poland first to Slovakia and eventually to Hungary. \nIn 1942 Arthur’s grandparents were picked up by the Gestapo and Arthur never saw them again. \nArthur was interviewed by Stephen Spielberg for Schindler’s List and by the Holocaust Museum in Washington DC. \nHe has spoken to many groups and believes very strongly in making sure the truth of the Holocaust experience stays alive in our collective memories. \nThese events take place at our museum at 26 Hadley Avenue in Toms River. \nThese events are free\, but your donations in support of our programs are appreciated. \nSEATING IS LIMITED so reserve your seat early by sending your name\, zip code\, email address\, telephone number\, and the name and date of the program (October 11\, 2026) to:  oceancountyhistory.programs@gmail.com \nwww.oceancountyhistory.org \noceancounty.history@verizon.net \n732-341-1880

DESCRIPTION:“She has a miraculous voice\, musical ability and technique\, as well as an innate gift for entertaining a crowd.” — Wall Street Journal \nVeronica Swift has established herself as one of her generation’s iconic voices in Jazz. \nThroughout her childhood\, she toured nationally with her parents (Jazz musicians Hod O’Brien and Stephanie Nakasian)\, singing at renowned clubs and festivals such as Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola\, Jazz Standard (NYC)\, Jazz Showcase (Chicago)\, and Telluride Jazz Festival. \nShe recorded her first album at age nine\, and since then has had a career spanning two decades\, which saw a 2nd place win at The 2015 Thelonious Monk Jazz Competition\, a twice-a-year residency at Birdland Jazz Club\, joining Chris Botti’s touring band\, as well as touring with Wynton Marsalis and Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and recording with Jeff Goldblum. \nHer 2021 album This Bitter Earth received a 5-star review and the cover of DownBeat magazine\, and in 2024\, she was honored with a French knighthood as Chevalier in the Order of Arts and Letters. \nWhile her first two releases on Mack Avenue cemented her as a master of scat improvisation and programming conceptual song cycles\, her most recent self-titled album (2023) showed us that Swift’s talents and path lie in other directions than just Jazz\, rather theatrical glam rock as seen with her original band DAME\, which she co-founded with The Dresden Dolls’ Brian Viglione. \nSince moving to Los Angeles in 2022\, she has pursued other projects and collaborations in the rock genre with artists like pianist Mike Garson of David Bowie\, Luke Spiller of The Struts\, guitarist John Notto of Dirty Honey\, and The Lemon Twigs. DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, 10/17/2026 08:00am to 4:30pm Toms River Elks \n600 Washington Street \nToms River\, NJ  08753   Ocean County \nGet your NJ Boating Safety Certificate and be ready for the summer!  NASBLA certified classes – use your NJ boat Safety Certificate in other states!  Our instructors will provide you with a fun-filled and educational look at Boat Safety in New Jersey. \nIf you are operating a personal watercraft (Jet Ski\, Wave Runner\, etc.)\, or a power vessel on the waters of the State of New Jersey you are required to possess a New Jersey boat safety certificate. This class meets the State of New Jersey – Division of State Police Marine Law Enforcement requirements for boat safety education.  Temporary certifications will be given upon successful completion of the course.  All Boat Safe US Courses are approved by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) and recognized by the U.S. Coast Guard. \nRegister for the class at  www.boatsafeus.com/schedule-class \n609-613-2339 \nClasses are $110 and are completed in a one-day class (8 1/2  hour day including lunch break and test time) or in two evenings (two 3 1/2 hour classes with mandatory homework).  At the conclusion of the class\, every student\, age 13 and over\, will receive a valid New Jersey State Boaters Safety Certificate. This Certificate is valid for Power Boats and Jet Skis (age 16 and over) and is accepted throughout many states as a valid form of having completed a Boaters Safety Course. \nProctored Exams Available!!
