SUMMARY:The Bob Band-A Bob Dylan Tribute
DESCRIPTION:Experience the music of Bob Dylan like never before as The Bob Band brings his legendary songs to The Strand\, in a moving and deeply authentic concert. \nThis Washington D.C. Quintet offers a richly musical journey through Dylan’s extraordinary catalog\, performing with authenticity\, reverence and a clear love for the music. \nRather than imitating Dylan\, the band brings decades of experience to arrangements that highlight the character and depth of his recordings across folk\, rock\, country\, blues\, and gospel. \nWith thoughtful storytelling and a rotating setlist that includes “like a Rolling Stone\, Tangled Up in Blue\, Mr. Tambourine Man\, and Make You Feel My Love”. \nThe Bob Band captures the sound and soul of one of the most influential artists of all time. It’s not imitation-it’s a celebration of the music that became it’s own genre. \nstrand.org

DESCRIPTION:April 1\, 8\, 15\, 22\, 29\, May 6\, 13\, 20 \n3:30 PM – 5:30 PM. \nMembers:  $160 \nNon-members:  $200 \nHello members\, \nMy new class is starting\, and I will continue to set up a still-life\, and instruct students with their own projects\, but . . .Ever get frustrated with a watercolor you just can’t get right? \nBeen there\, done that.  Some time ago I did a portrait of a niece in watercolor. \nLoved the tilt of her head and the flowers in her hair (she was a bridesmaid I think); but at that time I could not achieve the softness of her face in paint. \nSo\, I went over the entire work with pastels\, which are soft and blend beautifully. \nJoin me in class\, beginning April 1\, 3:30 – 5:30\, for 8 weeks.  $160 members\, $200 for non-members. \nI will supply the pastels.  Doesn’t have to be a portrait that you want to enhance\, could be landscape\, still-life or abstract. \nSo much fun to get messy with your materials. \nhttps://www.ocartistsguild.org/event/d-y-o-t-with-instruction-carol-colvin/ \ninfo@ocartistsguild.org \n732-270-3111 \n

SUMMARY:Veronica Swift
DESCRIPTION:“She has a miraculous voice\, musical ability and technique\, as well as an innate gift for entertaining a crowd.” — Wall Street Journal \nVeronica Swift has established herself as one of her generation’s iconic voices in Jazz. \nThroughout her childhood\, she toured nationally with her parents (Jazz musicians Hod O’Brien and Stephanie Nakasian)\, singing at renowned clubs and festivals such as Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola\, Jazz Standard (NYC)\, Jazz Showcase (Chicago)\, and Telluride Jazz Festival. \nShe recorded her first album at age nine\, and since then has had a career spanning two decades\, which saw a 2nd place win at The 2015 Thelonious Monk Jazz Competition\, a twice-a-year residency at Birdland Jazz Club\, joining Chris Botti’s touring band\, as well as touring with Wynton Marsalis and Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and recording with Jeff Goldblum. \nHer 2021 album This Bitter Earth received a 5-star review and the cover of DownBeat magazine\, and in 2024\, she was honored with a French knighthood as Chevalier in the Order of Arts and Letters. \nWhile her first two releases on Mack Avenue cemented her as a master of scat improvisation and programming conceptual song cycles\, her most recent self-titled album (2023) showed us that Swift’s talents and path lie in other directions than just Jazz\, rather theatrical glam rock as seen with her original band DAME\, which she co-founded with The Dresden Dolls’ Brian Viglione. \nSince moving to Los Angeles in 2022\, she has pursued other projects and collaborations in the rock genre with artists like pianist Mike Garson of David Bowie\, Luke Spiller of The Struts\, guitarist John Notto of Dirty Honey\, and The Lemon Twigs. Swift’s expansive artistic voice remains firmly intact regardless of genre. \nShe continues to release Jazz music as Veronica Swift\, as is evident in her 2026 album\, Home\, which will be released in May of this year. \nThe album’s story takes us on Veronica’s journey from growing up on a farm in Greater Appalachian Virginia\, losin \ngrunincenter.org \n732-255-0500
