SUMMARY:Watercolor Unleashed - Wet & Wild Ocean! -- with Julie Gilbert Pollard
DESCRIPTION:This workshop will show you how to paint the misty\, salty ocean waves as they crash upon the rocky shore. \nLearn to apply the “anatomy” of an ocean wave – along with how to paint rocks that actually look solid and hard – to a water-media painting. \nThe focus of this workshop will be watercolor – with gouache as a secondary OPTIONAL medium. \nA very versatile painting medium\, gouache can be used in both transparent / translucent and opaque applications. \nAdding gouache to your watercolor toolbox opens up a range of possibilities with the medium\, thereby helping us to capture our artistic vision. \nYou will be encouraged to add gouache white OR a full palette of opaque colors if you wish. The choice is yours!  Review the supply list for more details. \nReference photo material will be shared with you\, but you are welcome to use your own if you prefer. \nThere will be demos\, instruction at all levels\, one-on-one critique and lots of painting time. \nClass time will be structured\, yet open enough to accommodate the artistic spirit within us all. \nAll levels are welcome and encouraged to attend. The only prerequisite is an attitude of joy in the act of painting and some watercolor experience! \nTuition: $475 (member)/$525 (non-member) \nhttp://www.pineshoresartassociation.org \neducation@pineshoresartassociation.org \n6095973557

SUMMARY:Learn How Artist Robert Rauschenberg Reinvented Postmodernism with Smithsonian Curator Carolyn Russo
DESCRIPTION:Join Smithsonian curator Carolyn Russo as she talks about her book\, The Ascent of Rauschenberg\, at 2 p.m. Thursday\, October 8 in a virtual discussion presented by the Ocean County Library. Explore the towering legacy\, unexpected inspirations\, and creative heights of Robert Rauscenberg (1925 – 2008)\, one of American’s most influential artistic icons. \nMost famous for his Combines painting and sculpture hybrids\, Rauschenberg created within a range of mediums\, including collage\, performance\, photography\, and printmaking. \nBut a connective tissue through it all was a fascination with flight. \nThe Ascent of Rauschenberg explores the flight motif across his work\, spanning birds\, insects\, aviation\, spaceflight\, sensory experiences\, and metaphors for his own life. \nMore than 150 images reveal the vibrant scope of his work\, from lithographs inspired by the Apollo 11 launch that NASA invited him to witness and document to a Combine featuring a taxidermied eagle that evokes Roman mythology. \nNine accompanying essays reflect on his many flight themes and subtleties that might otherwise be overlooked. \nThe book also includes archival photographs and personal papers from the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation. \nCarolyn Russo is the curator of the art collection at the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum. \nShe has lectured internationally on the subject of art and flight and is the author of several publications\, including Art of the Airport Tower\, \nIn Plane View: Abstractions of Flight\, and Women and Flight: Portraits of Contemporary Women Pilots. \nRegistration is required for this free program. \nRegister now for the change to view art history through the unique prism of flight. \nTo register\, visit tinyurl.com/RussoOCL\, call 732-349-6200\, or stop by your local OCL branch. \ntinyurl.com/RussoOCL

SUMMARY:When there Were Witches
DESCRIPTION:Join archivist Mickey DiCamillo as he unravels the Salem witch trials and explore the transcripts from the 1692 interrogations of suspected witches during \n“When There Were Witches” at two Ocean County Library branches this fall. \nThe program will take place at the following locations and dates: \nThursday\, October 1 @ 7 p.m. – Brick Branch – 301 Chambers Bridge Road\, 732-477-4513 \nThursday\, October 8 @ 7 p.m. – Jackson Branch – 2 Jackson Drive\, 732-928-4400 \nIn January of 1692\, a strange illness seized control of five young girls living in Salem Village\, a contentious and divided town in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. \nWhen medical professionals couldn’t identify the illness\, the town believed the girls had come “under an evil hand.” \nEvents soon spiraled out of control with local divisions and a splintered colonial government feeding the frenzy. \nArchivist Mickey DiCamillo will unravel the events with archival documents from the period\, \nand program participants will interact with transcripts from the 1692 interrogations of suspected witches. \nA Q&A session will follow the 60-minute presentation. \nMickey DiCamillo is an archivist\, historian\, and information specialist. \nHe has worked for the Historical Society of Pennsylvania\, the University of Pennsylvania\, and the Hagley Library and Museum. \nHe has published in the Journal of Film and History and The Encyclopedia of Greater Philadelphia\, \nand in 2004 was Veterans of Foreign Wars New Jersey State Teacher of the Year for Civic Education. \nHe lives in Moorestown where he has served on the board for the township’s historical society. \nRegistration is required for this free program. \nTo register\, visit tinyurl.com/WitchesOCL\, or call or stop by the branch of your choice. \ntinyurl.com/WitchesOCL

SUMMARY:October - Autumn Exhale
DESCRIPTION:The Autumn Exhale | October at Simply Present Healing \nFall doesn’t ask us to become more. \nIt offers a different invitation—to slow down\, recalibrate\, and make room for all that the year has already held. \nAs the leaves begin to let go and the natural world starts to settle in\, perhaps we can give ourselves permission to do the same. \nThe Autumn Exhale is the theme for October at Simply Present Healing—a collection of experiences created to offer space for rest\, reflection\, connection\, and simply being present. \nThroughout the month\, come and experience 1:1 Reiki Energy Healing sessions\, intimate Sound Bath Experiences\, \nand an October Death Café—each offering a different way to pause and reconnect. \nYou might come to rest deeply through Reiki\, settle into the sounds and vibrations of the singing bowls\, \nor gather in community for an open conversation about life\, death\, and everything in between. \nThere is nothing you need to become. Nothing you need to accomplish.  Just an invitation to slow down\, settle in\, and exhale. \nExplore The Autumn Exhale — October Programs and register  here: https://simplypresenthealing.com/events \nsheri@simplypresenthealing.com \n609-213-7348
