DESCRIPTION:The Scarecrow Walk is once again returning to Downtown Toms River. \nThe community is invited to come downtown and vote for their favorite scarecrow. \nScarecrows are on display from October 10th to October 31st . \nParticipating businesses will have ballots for voting.  Just look for the Scarecrow Walk poster in their window! \nDo you think you have what it takes to enter the contest?  Now is the time to start planning your ultimate scarecrow. \nSo\, dig out those old clothes from the attic\, rummage through your fall decorations and start designing the perfect scarecrow. \nThe contest is open to all ages and there is no entry fee.  Registration is required and must be received by Monday October 6th. \nAgain\, this year we will have two chances to win.  The first is the traditional People’s Choice\, where the public votes on their favorite scarecrow. \nThe second will be the Judge’s Choice.  Special Judges will vote on the best scarecrow. \nYour scarecrow will automatically be entered into both contests. \nScarecrow Walk –

DESCRIPTION:This is a 4-week class on Thursdays\, November 6\, 13\, 20 December 4   7-9 pm \nThis class is being offered to ages 12 and up! \n$100 non- members $80.00 members \nInstructor: Joseph Rogine \nThese classes are designed for both beginning to advanced students who want to sharpen their skills in drawing. \nI have taught students for over 25 years who have never picked up a pencil to draw to those who have been quite advanced. \nIt is an academic course\, (academic being defined as that which can be taught). \nDrawings are created by copying master drawings\, simple to complex still-life objects and classical plaster casts. \nThe student usually begins by copying a master drawing that is supplied to them. \nAll students start out using graphite pencils with grades of 2H HB 2B. \nThe capabilities and limitations of drawing materials and drawing instruments are discussed at length along with their proper handling. Classes are essentially about learning how to see nature and the world as an artist sees it\, through the language and medium of drawing. \nThe student’s eye will gradually become trained and sensitive on how to compose a layout on the page\, assessing proportion\, elementary perspective\, gauge angles\, identify shapes\, access the degree of curvature of forms\, locate hidden movements and linear rhythms\, the structure and modeling of form and the study of light and shade. \nThis opens a whole new world towards a visual literacy that was very common in school curricula 100 to 150 years ago. \nDepending on a students’ progress and particular interest repeat students are free to experiment with various drawing mediums like charcoal\, pastel pencil\, pen and ink etc.\, along with the drawing surfaces applicable to their chosen medium.
