SUMMARY:Edible History: How Latin American Food Changed the World
DESCRIPTION:Go on a culinary adventure with Edible History: How Latin American Food Changed the World\, \na travelling exhibit by the Newark Public Library’s New Jersey Hispanic Research and Information Center. \nThe exhibit will be available to view from now until September 30 in the atrium of the Toms River Branch of the Ocean County Library during the branch’s regular operating hours. \nCan you imagine a world without French fries\, ketchup\, or chocolate? \nNo guacamole or salsa to eat with chips? No beans for “rice and beans?” No corn tortillas for tacos\, no popcorn\, or corn on the cob? \nNo tomato sauce for spaghetti or pizza? No pumpkins for Halloween? No turkey or sweet potatoes at Thanksgiving? \nMany of the foods that are part of our daily lives today were not known in the rest of the world before Christopher Columbus sailed across the Atlantic Ocean and reached Latin America. \nEdible History takes a deep look at the Latin American origins of chocolate\, quinoa\, tomatoes\, corn\, potatoes\, and peanuts. \nRegistration is not required to view the exhibit. \nFor more information\, call 732-349-6200\, or stop by the branch at 101 Washington Street.

DESCRIPTION:April 1\, 8\, 15\, 22\, 29\, May 6\, 13\, 20 \n3:30 PM – 5:30 PM. \nMembers:  $160 \nNon-members:  $200 \nHello members\, \nMy new class is starting\, and I will continue to set up a still-life\, and instruct students with their own projects\, but . . .Ever get frustrated with a watercolor you just can’t get right? \nBeen there\, done that.  Some time ago I did a portrait of a niece in watercolor. \nLoved the tilt of her head and the flowers in her hair (she was a bridesmaid I think); but at that time I could not achieve the softness of her face in paint. \nSo\, I went over the entire work with pastels\, which are soft and blend beautifully. \nJoin me in class\, beginning April 1\, 3:30 – 5:30\, for 8 weeks.  $160 members\, $200 for non-members. \nI will supply the pastels.  Doesn’t have to be a portrait that you want to enhance\, could be landscape\, still-life or abstract. \nSo much fun to get messy with your materials. \nhttps://www.ocartistsguild.org/event/d-y-o-t-with-instruction-carol-colvin/ \ninfo@ocartistsguild.org \n732-270-3111 \n
