DESCRIPTION:Maureen Dowd is a columnist for The New York Times Opinion Pages and a feature writer for The Times’s Styles and Arts & Leisure sections. Ms. Dowd won the Pulitzer Prize in 1999\, in the commentary category\, for her “unsparing columns on the hypocrisies involved in the Lewinsky affair and the effort to impeach President Clinton.” Ms. Dowd was appointed a columnist for the Op-Ed page of The New York Times in January 1995 and has covered ten presidential campaigns. She served as White House correspondent during the first Bush and the Clinton administrations\, gaining a wide following of admirers and imitators for her witty\, incisive\, and acerbic portraits of the powerful. \n\nMs. Dowd joined The Times as a metropolitan reporter in October 1983. She began her career in 1974 as an editorial assistant for The Washington Star\, later becoming a sports columnist\, metropolitan reporter\, and feature writer. When The Star closed in 1981\, she went to Time magazine. \n\nA 1992 Pulitzer Prize finalist in national reporting for her coverage of the Clarence Thomas-Anita Hill hearings\, Ms. Dowd received the Breakthrough Award from Women\, Men and Media at Columbia University in 1991 and a Matrix Award from New York Women in Communications in 1994. She was named one of Glamour’s Women of the Year for 1996 and won the Damon Runyon Award in 2000 for outstanding contributions to journalism. In 2017\, she received the Ernie Pyle Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Society of Newspaper Columnists. DESCRIPTION:9/16/2025 & 9/18/2025 \n6:00pm to 9:30pm \nToms River Elks \n600 Washington Street \nToms River\, NJ  08753   Ocean County \nGet your NJ Boating Safety Certificate and be ready for the summer! \nNASBLA certified classes – use your NJ boat Safety Certificate in other states! \nOur instructors will provide you with a fun-filled and educational look at Boat Safety in New Jersey. \nIf you are operating a personal watercraft (Jet Ski\, Wave Runner\, etc.)\, or a power vessel on the waters of the State of New Jersey you are required to possess a New Jersey boat safety certificate. This class meets the State of New Jersey – Division of State Police Marine Law Enforcement requirements for boat safety education.  Temporary certifications will be given upon successful completion of the course.  All Boat Safe US Courses are approved by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) and recognized by the U.S. Coast Guard. \nRegister for the class at  www.boatsafeus.com/schedule-class \n609-613-2339 \nClasses are $110 and are completed in a one-day class (8 1/2  hour day including lunch break and test time) or in two evenings (two 3 1/2 hour classes with mandatory homework).  At the conclusion of the class\, every student\, age 13 and over\, will receive a valid New Jersey State Boaters Safety Certificate. DESCRIPTION:Rockin’ Jake has been hailed by many as one of the premier harmonica players in the country. \nHis original sound is a hybrid of second line\, swamp funk\, blues and zydeco with influences from Paul Butterfield\, Big Walter Horton\, James Cotton\, The Meters\,WAR\, J. Geils Band\, Clifton Chenier\, and the Fabulous Thunderbirds. Jake has conjured up this formula that is blowing crowds away from coast to coast. Widely known as a touring juggernaut among his peers\, his schedule of over 200 performances per year include clubs\, concert venues\, and festivals. \nBased out of New Orleans since 1990\, Rockin’ Jake relocated since being flooded out by Hurricane Katrina\, then settled in St. Louis and now lives in Southern Florida. Originally from the East Coast\, the “blues bug” bit at an early age for Jake. He immersed himself in the thriving regional blues scene\, which boasted such talents as Roomful of Blues\, Ronnie Earl\, Duke Robillard and Sugar Ray.
