SUMMARY:Alexa Stier\, piano
DESCRIPTION:Bösendorfer Recital Room \n(Building 11A) \nTickets $10 \nGeneral Admission Seating \n\nThis program explores the connection between bird calls\, nature\, and the supernatural. Rameau’s Tendres Plaintes evokes sighing\, melancholic gestures\, while Le Rappel des Oiseaux explores birdsong through elaborate ornamentations\, idiosyncratic to the French baroque keyboard style. In Olivier Messiaen’s Petites Esquisses d’Oiseaux\, robins\, blackbirds\, thrushes\, and skylarks emerge in vivid\, crystalline textures. \n\nSchumann’s Waldszenen transports the listener to a forest\, where nature is imbued with both beauty and mystery. Among these poetic vignettes\, Vogel als Prophet stands out as an enigmatic prophecy delivered through the voice of a bird. The program concludes with Prokofiev’s Piano Sonata No. 2\, a work that embodies what the pianist and scholar Boris Berman refers to as polypersonalia —a paradoxical blend of soaring lyricism\, aggressive brutality\, cabaret-like parody\, and mechanical precision. The third movement draws upon the rich tradition of skazki\, or Russian mystical fairy tales\, reminiscent of the music of Prokofiev’s older Russian contemporaries\, such as Rimsky-Korsakov and Medtner. Through these selections of works\, the program traverses a vast landscape of nature’s wonders\, supernatural whispers\, and human imagination. \n\nThis event is funded by the Ocean County College Foundation. \n\nhttps://www.grunincenter.org/event/alexa-stier-piano/ \ngrunincenter@ocean.edu \n732-255-0500 \n

SUMMARY:Mary Fahl
DESCRIPTION:In an effort to find some light and comfort during these challenging times\, singer/songwriter Mary Fahl looks back to some of the essential music that has brought her sustenance and clarity by reinterpreting songs from her greatest inspirations … Pink Floyd\, George Harrison\, Moody Blues\, ELO\, The Rolling Stones\, Neil Young and others. \nFor Mary\, this is a tribute to the music that defined her as an artist. \n\nWith “a voice for the gods that can transport listeners to other realms” (Boston Globe)\, Mary Fahl is an expressive\, emotional singer/songwriter who first achieved fame as lead singer and co-founder of the mid-1990s NYC- based chamber-pop group October Project\, a band known for their lush harmonies\, sweeping melodies and Fahl’s unique and powerful vocals. After two records on Epic\, Fahl went on to pursue her own muse\, whether that meant writing and recording songs for movies (including the theme for the Civil War epic “Gods and Generals”)\, singing arias and medieval Spanish songs for Sony Classical or releasing a unique album-length take on “Dark Side of the Moon”… \n\nhttps://www.lizzierosemusic.com/product-page/mary-fahl-fri-sept-12th \nlizzierosemusic@aol.com \n6092766758 \n

SUMMARY:Dana Fuchs
DESCRIPTION:Dana Fuchs stands at the crossroads of blues and rock\, a fierce voice in modern roots music. With Borrowed Time\, she digs into her southern rock upbringing\, channeling the loud\, guitar-driven sounds of her childhood in Wildwood\, Florida. \n\nRaised by an outspoken Irish-Catholic family\, Fuchs never fit the conservative mold of her hometown. Music grounded her—whether through Baptist church soul or the gritty rock of The Rolling Stones\, Led Zeppelin\, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. It taught her that rock & roll wasn’t just the sound of the South; it was the sound of the world. \n\nBorrowed Time shifts from personal storytelling to broader narratives. Tracks like “Nothing You Own” highlight the struggles of Cape Town’s poor\, while “Call My Name” turns the experiences of two women in a Liberian refugee camp into a universal tale of love and survival. “Double Down on Wrong” opens the album with searing riffs\, tackling political discord. \n\nhttps://www.lizzierosemusic.com/product-page/dana-fuchs-sat-sept-13th \nlizzierosemusic@aol.com \n6092766758

SUMMARY:Rockin' Jake Band
DESCRIPTION:Rockin’ Jake has been hailed by many as one of the premier harmonica players in the country. \nHis original sound is a hybrid of second line\, swamp funk\, blues and zydeco with influences from Paul Butterfield\, Big Walter Horton\, James Cotton\, The Meters\,WAR\, J. Geils Band\, Clifton Chenier\, and the Fabulous Thunderbirds. Jake has conjured up this formula that is blowing crowds away from coast to coast. Originally from the East Coast\, the “blues bug” bit at an early age for Jake. He immersed himself in the thriving regional blues scene\, which boasted such talents as Roomful of Blues\, Ronnie Earl\, Duke Robillard and Sugar Ray. Primarily self-taught\, Jake briefly studied with Jerry Portnoy\, harmonica player for Muddy Waters. \n\nhttps://www.lizzierosemusic.com/product-page/rockin-jake-band-wed-sep-17th \nlizzierosemusic@aol.com \n6092766758 \n  \nLocation:

SUMMARY:Willy Porter
DESCRIPTION:Willy Porter continues on a musical and personal odyssey spanning over two decades\, 13 albums\, and multiple continents. His journey has been defined by an inquisitive love for humanity and the language that describes what we all hold to be true. Porter’s songs weave a universal perspective about the questions\, struggles\, and triumphs of human existence. His live shows are guitar-driven grit\, soul\, silence and muscle– at times electrifying\, dynamic\, and unique in the way that Porter’s voice blends and fuses with his fret work. \n\nA largely self-taught musician\, Porter began treating audiences to his brand of guitar playing and wry storytelling in the late ‘80’s while living in Madison\, Wisconsin. In 1990\, he released his first full-length independent album\, The Trees Have Soul\, and the touring life has flowed steadily ever since. Porter has literally logged millions of miles across America\, Canada\, the UK\, and Europe\, touring solo\, as well as with various incarnations of the Willy Porter Band and in support of artists like Tori Amos\, Paul Simon\, Jethro Tull\, Sting\, and Jeff Beck. \n\nhttps://www.lizzierosemusic.com/product-page/willy-porter-thur-sept-18th \nlizzierosemusic@aol.com \n6092766758 \n

SUMMARY:Garrison Keillor Tonight
DESCRIPTION:Member Presale July 3-9\, Tickets on Sale July 10\, 2025 at noon \n\nMain Stage \n(Building 11A) \nOrchestra $58\, Mezzanine $48 \n\nGarrison Keillor Tonight is an evening of stand-up\, storytelling\, audience song\, and poetry. One man\, one microphone. There are sung sonnets\, limericks and musical jokes\, and the thread that runs through it is the beauty of growing old. Despite the inconvenience\, old age brings the contentment of LESS IS MORE. Your mistakes and big ambitions are behind you\, nothing left to prove\, and small things give you great pleasure because that’s what’s left. \n\n“I was unhappy in college because it was a requirement for an intellectual\, but then I went into show business and discovered that people won’t pay to be made unhappy\, their kids will do it for free.” \n\nThere is the News from Lake Wobegon\, a town booming with new entrepreneurs\, makers of artisanal firewood and gourmet meatloaf\, breeders of composting worms\, and dogs trained to do childcare. But some things endure\, such as the formation of the Living Flag on Main Street\, citizens in tight formation wearing red\, white or blue caps\, and Mr. Keillor among them\, standing close to old neighbors\, Myrtle Krebsbach (“Truckstop”) and Julie Christensen (“Bruno\, The Fishing Dog”) and Clint Bunsen. And an a cappella sing-along with the audience singing from memory an odd medley of patriotic songs\, pop standards\, hymns\, and ending with the national anthem. \n\nhttps://www.grunincenter.org/event/garrison-keillor-tonight/ \nwww.grunincenter@ocean.edu \n732-255-0500

SUMMARY:Billy Hector With The Midnight Horns
DESCRIPTION:Whether Billy Hector is teasing you with his sultry slidework\, picking through delta blues or flat-out cranking it up and crunching out the electric blues/rock on his beloved vintage Fender Stratocaster\, his music reflects the true soul and origins of the blues; always passionate\, engaging and dedicated to making the audience move and sweat.  Having honed his chops and style through three decades of performances\, Hector is critically recognized as one of the hottest and most interesting guitarist/songwriters on the original circuit and has even been called “A New Jersey state treasure” by music writers. \n\nhttps://www.lizzierosemusic.com/product-page/billy-hector-sat-sept-20th \nlizzierosemusic@aol.com \n6092766758
