DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, March 14 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Giffordtown Schoolhouse Museum\, meet George Washington as he reflects upon his life. \nGeneral Washington will discuss his role in the French and Indian War\, the Revolutionary War\, his family\, his presidency\, his role in being a slave owner and more. \n  \nGeorge Washington is portrayed by Dr.  Jeffrey Schenker. Schenker has a masters  degree  in history and a doctorate from Drew University. \nHe taught history for many years at Toms River High School South and is currently an adjunct professor at Ocean County College. \nJeff has served as a trustee for the League of New Jersey Historical Societies\, and recently as president of the Ocean County Historical Society. \nIn addition\, Jeff is the 2025 recipient of the prestigious Ocean County Ginny Haines Historic Advocate Award. \nThe program is sponsored by the Tuckerton Historical Society. \nThe Giffordtown Schoolhouse Museum is located at 35 Leitz Boulevard in Little Egg Harbor. \nThe Society asks for a $5 donation at the door and suggests reservation by calling Connie at 609-296-1149. \nTuckerton Historical Socety \nTuckertonhistoricalsociety.org \n609 296 1149

In addition\, he worked at the NYC Department of Education and retired after 47 years of service focusing on youth development\, conflict resolution and building bridges. \nThese events take place at our museum at 26 Hadley Avenue in Toms River. He will also discuss burial practices of the time and how they would have been applied to early residents of the area. \n\nThis Power Point presentation will include a brief history of 19th Century Toms River\, the emergence of Methodism\, the identity of military veterans interred at the cemetery dating back to the American Revolution\, the meaning of some of the symbols on certain gravestones\, and much more. Joseph will also discuss preservation efforts for the two-hundred-year-old cemetery. \n\nJoseph is the historian for the First United Methodist Church of Toms River\, which oversees and manages the Old Methodist Cemetery.
