SUMMARY:Veronica Roth Author Talk
DESCRIPTION:Courage\, Choice\, and What Comes Next with Dystopian Icon Veronica Roth \nTOMS RIVER – Join Veronica Roth\, #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Divergent series\, for a virtual discussion at 7 p.m. Thursday\, October 1\, presented by the Ocean County Library. Get a sneak peek at The Sixth Faction\, the highly anticipated novel by one of the most iconic young adult authors of a generation. \nFifteen years after readers first stepped into dystopian Chicago alongside Tris Prior\, the Divergent universe continues to captivate readers with its unflinching exploration of \nidentity\, courage\, and sacrifice. In the alternate universe of The Sixth Faction\, we revisit familiar characters in a completely new way… \nBeatrice Prior stands on the brink of a decision every person in her world must make: five factions\, five futures\, five lives. She has a plan. \nShe’s going to make the bravest choice and leave Abnegation to join Dauntless\, even though it means abandoning her family. \nBut when tragedy strikes at her choosing ceremony\, everything changes – her world\, her plans\, and Beatrice herself. \nHer decision will thrust her into the crosshairs of an underground rebellion\, where a boy with secrets as dangerous as her own – a boy with only a number for a name – \nmay be the only person she can trust. One choice will change everything. \nOcean County Library cardholders can place requests now to borrow The Sixth Faction when it comes out on October 6. \nTo place a request\, visit tinyurl.com/FactionOCL or call or visit your local OCL branch. \nRegistration is required for this free program. \nTo register\, visit tinyurl.com/RothOCL\, call 732-349-6200\, or stop by your local OCL branch. \ntinyurl.com/RothOCL

SUMMARY:When there Were Witches
DESCRIPTION:Join archivist Mickey DiCamillo as he unravels the Salem witch trials and explore the transcripts from the 1692 interrogations of suspected witches during \n“When There Were Witches” at two Ocean County Library branches this fall. \nThe program will take place at the following locations and dates: \nThursday\, October 1 @ 7 p.m. – Brick Branch – 301 Chambers Bridge Road\, 732-477-4513 \nThursday\, October 8 @ 7 p.m. – Jackson Branch – 2 Jackson Drive\, 732-928-4400 \nIn January of 1692\, a strange illness seized control of five young girls living in Salem Village\, a contentious and divided town in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. \nWhen medical professionals couldn’t identify the illness\, the town believed the girls had come “under an evil hand.” \nEvents soon spiraled out of control with local divisions and a splintered colonial government feeding the frenzy. \nArchivist Mickey DiCamillo will unravel the events with archival documents from the period\, \nand program participants will interact with transcripts from the 1692 interrogations of suspected witches. \nA Q&A session will follow the 60-minute presentation. \nMickey DiCamillo is an archivist\, historian\, and information specialist. \nHe has worked for the Historical Society of Pennsylvania\, the University of Pennsylvania\, and the Hagley Library and Museum. \nHe has published in the Journal of Film and History and The Encyclopedia of Greater Philadelphia\, \nand in 2004 was Veterans of Foreign Wars New Jersey State Teacher of the Year for Civic Education. \nHe lives in Moorestown where he has served on the board for the township’s historical society. \nRegistration is required for this free program. \nTo register\, visit tinyurl.com/WitchesOCL\, or call or stop by the branch of your choice. \ntinyurl.com/WitchesOCL
