Watercolor Pencils & Watercolor Painting — an Exploration of Techniques

This class offers a different entry point into watercolor—one that begins not with rules, but with learning the language of water itself.

By understanding how pigment flows, blends, and responds, you gain a natural sympathy for the medium that many classes overlook, making painting feel far more intuitive and enjoyable.

We begin by creating a few small paintings on bookmarks—simple, low-pressure exercises that can be kept or discarded—

giving you the chance to explore techniques and get comfortable before moving into a finished piece.

From there, we transition into working with shells for inspiration, sharpening observational skills while learning how to translate what we see into color, shape, and composition.

Using richly pigmented Dr. Ph. Martin’s inks alongside watercolor pencils, you’ll experiment with both fluid washes and controlled line, expanding your approach to the medium.

All materials are provided, so you can arrive and begin creating right away.
