Peto Presents New Jersey Folk Revival Music!
September 8, 2024 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm

Peto Presents: NJ Folk Revival Music
Join us as New Jersey author Michael Gabriele does a presentation on his book New Jersey Folk Revival Music—History & Tradition.
Gabriele will discuss the evolution of folk revival music in New Jersey—from the days of bawdy tavern revelers and fiddle players in the 1700s; to the magical acoustic sounds heard throughout the Pine Barrens; to monumental recordings made by Woody Guthrie, Paul Robeson, Jimmie Rodgers, the Carter Family and Cecil Sharp at the Victor studios in Camden during the early 1900s; to the growth of music festivals throughout the state; to the pioneering efforts of contemporary acoustic musicians.
ABOUT THE PRESENTER:
Michael Gabriele has written five books on New Jersey history, all published by The History Press/Arcadia Publishing. A lifelong Garden State resident, Gabriele is a 1975 graduate of Montclair State University, and has worked as a journalist and freelance writer for more than forty years.
