OCAG167 Intro to Digital Art & Procreate This is a one-day workshop and will take place in the upstairs studio.

Class Description:

An introductory workshop to the dynamic world of digital art and the iPad app, Procreate.

These materials will be necessary for the workshop. An iPad and Procreate (a $10 iPad app from the App Store).

This course will provide a comprehensive but beginner-friendly overview of Procreate’s  capabilities – students will learn foundational workflows and techniques that can be used across digital art programs to bring their artistic visions to life. With hands-on projects and step-by-step guidance, students will be able to create their own artwork on their personal devices that they can bring home and build upon after the workshop.

Syllabus/Subjects Covered in Workshop:

• Navigating the Interface and Shortcuts ● Using Layers

○ Basic Controls (Groups, Opacity, Alpha, etc.)

○ Clipping and Layer Masks

○ Using the “Reference” feature

○ Blending Modes

• Brushes
• Selection & Distortion Tools
• Adjustments Tab
• Basic Animation (if time permits)

Project Plans

During the course of the workshop, students should be able to create 2-3 mini projects. The first mini project will focus on using the basic tools and layer functions mentioned in the first two bullet points above. Students can create their own personal designs or work off of prompts/ideas provided for that activity.

For the second mini project, students will focus on the Adjustments tab and all of the effects they can add to their digital art. This second project can either work off of the first project, or they can create another piece of art to work off of, or a photo.

If time permits, students can do a third mini project that introduces the animation tool in Procreate.
