OCAG104 Drawing with Joseph Rogine

December 7, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Per Diem payments will be accepted by instructor for individual class sessions ($20 members and $25 non-members)

The Guild is pleased to have Joe Rogine back on our class schedule after a long absence.
This is NOW 6-week session runs 11/2, 9, 16, 30, 12/7 and 14. (There is no class on 11/23) being offered to ages 12 and up! (teen & adult) $120 members/$150 non-members

These classes are designed for both beginning to advanced students who want to sharpen their skills in drawing. I have taught students for over 25 years who have never picked up a pencil to draw to those who have been quite advanced.

It is an academic course, (academic being defined as that which can be taught). Drawings are created from copying master drawings, simple to complex still life objects and classical plaster casts. The student usually begins by copying a master drawing that is supplied to them.

All students start out using graphite pencils with grades of 2H HB 2B. The capabilities and limitations of drawing materials and drawing instruments are discussed at length along with their proper handling. Classes are essentially about learning how to see nature and the world as an artist sees it, through the language and medium of drawing.

The student’s eye will gradually become trained and sensitive on how to compose a layout on the page, assessing proportion, elementary perspective, gauge angles, identify shapes, access the degree of curvature of forms, locate hidden movements and linear rhythms, the structure and modeling of form and the study of light and shade. This opens a whole new world towards a visual literacy that was very common in school curricula 100 to 150 years ago.

Depending on a students’ progress and particular interest repeat students are free to experiment with various drawing mediums like charcoal, pastel pencil, pen and ink etc., along with the drawing surfaces applicable to their chosen medium. Joe Rogine supply list 2023
