6 Week Pottery Class: Hand Building & Throwing on the Wheel
September 1, 2023 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Instructors: Albert Gomez and
Mary Kate I-Fogel
Level: ALL
If you can think it, you can make it! Anything is possible with clay as your medium.
Al and Mary Kate will walk you through different handbuilding techniques such as pinch pots, coil pots, and slab construction. Students can also choose to learn how to use the wheel, we will teach basic techniques such as centering, widening, and then onto throwing and shaping. It is highly recommended to start off in your first 6 week class session with handbuilding if you have never done pottery before. Students may have up to 16 completed pieces per our 6 week session, completed in either hand building or wheel throwing.
Special Notes
Registration for this class will close 8/30. If the minimum number of registrations is not met, the class will be canceled and your money will be refunded. Don’t wait to sign up!
Required Supplies
Supply list of tools below to purchase them on your own, however, a tool kit can also be purchased at Makers Station for $12.95. Tools are not included in the tuition. For wheel throwers, you will receive clay for the first 2 weeks included in your tuition AS LONG AS YOU ARE NOT KEEPING ANY PIECES.
No outside clay can be purchased due to kiln restrictions. As you need more clay, you can purchase it for $6 plus tax from Maker’s Station. For experienced, intermediate, and advanced students who want to try porcelain and white stoneware, the cost is $7 per 5 pound bag.
One “tool” that a hand builder would need, that a wheel person may not, would be a piece of canvas to work on. Makers Station has canvases available for $5 (+tax) but- if you have canvas at home, please bring it! Please bring in a small, shoebox sized plastic container for your supplies to be stored at Makers Station.
