TRANSITIONAL LIVING RESOURCE FAIR SCHEDULED FOR OCT. 26

TOMS RIVER - The Ocean County Children's Inter Agency Coordinating Council (CIACC) and the Ocean County Mental Health Board have organized a resource fair to run from 3 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 26 at the Toms River Elks Lodge, 600 Washington St., here.

The "Passport to Independence" event is designed to empower youth with mental and behavioral health challenges and their families to transition successfully into adulthood through information about available resources. The event is made possible by a partnership with the Elks, Ocean Partnership for Children and many other community partners.

"Information is key to helping youth and young adults become empowered so they can guide their own care," said Freeholder Gerry P. Little, who serves as liaison to the Ocean County Mental Health Board. "I encourage families and their children who may be affected by these challenges to attend this event."

While there, attendees can increase their knowledge and access of community resources that address the varied issues experienced by youth in transition.

"We are hopeful this event will be a step in helping to create a seamless transition, promote resiliency and support wellness and recovery for youth with mental health and behavioral challenges as they become independent adults," Little said.

Young teens and adults ages 14 to 22 and their families along with anyone who assists in referral and linkage for youth and young adults are encouraged to attend.

Information on financial entitlements, health care, education, employment, self help, independent living and mental health will be available.
